JD really loves dinosaurs, then again what 2 year old boy doesn't! JD loves visiting the Natural History Museum to see dinos, playing with all his dinosaur toys and he absolutely loves dinosaur books. I recently came across this cute dino book called How Do Dinosaurs Clean Their Rooms? by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mark Teague. This book is so funny, while also being educational and JD makes me read it over and over again. What I didn't know is that this book is actually just one in a series. Here are a few more in the series that I may need to add to JD's collection!
JD’s Library is definitely a work in progress, but it still doesn’t stop the books from pouring in. His latest book was given to him by his Nina Angie and it happens to be one of my favorite’s too, Si Le Das Un Panqueque A Una Cerdita (If You Give A Pig a Pancake), by Laura Numeroff. I own the book in English but I had no idea it was also published in Spanish, this is such a great way to encourage bilingual children. JD has started saying a few words lately (some in Spanish too) and with the help of his grandparents, who only speak Spanish to him and great books like, Si Le Das Un Panqueque A Una Cerdita, he will be a bilingual baby in no time!
A few days ago I was reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to JD and I realized that he was no longer trying to eat the book; he was actually looking at the pictures and examining the pages. So, this brings me to one of my many 2010 to-do list items: Build JD, his own home library. JD already has lots of books and I’m always finding new ones to add to his collection, so why not go all out and build him a library (in the next few months), with bookplates and all. In the meantime I will continue to add to his collection, starting with this little gem of a book.

Today we got a package in the mail, unfortunately it was addressed to my hubby so being the polite wife that I am, I didn't open it (although I wanted to), I waited patiently until he got home and starred at him until he opened it. The package turned out to be a book for JD (who is 15 weeks old), Aesop's Fables, just like the one below (you can find this one and many other versions of it on Amazon).
Aesop's Fables are some of the most well known in the world, they are simple in expression but convey a deeper aspect of human life. If you've ever heard the expressions "look before you leap" or "slow and steady wins the race" then you should know that these are sayings drawn directly from Aesop's Fables. I could go on and on about this wonderful book, but I'll let you be the judge of it! Hubby can't wait to read this book to JD, although it may be a few years before JD will understand moral values, but it's never to early to start.
