Our Bedroom: Ceiling Fan & Paint Color

Our bedroom is slowly but surely coming along! This past weekend my dad came over to help me install the ceiling fan I found on Craigslist, you can read about my recent Craigslist finds here. I was actually worried that the fan would be too big, but it turned out to be a perfect fit for our room. My dad is literally a jack of all trades and he's always willing to help me with all my little projects, which I really appreciate. Thanks Daddy!

I've also recently picked and purchased the paint color for our bedroom! I chose Misty Surf by Olympic (you can find it at Lowes) after coming across the beautiful guest room below at Perfectly Imperfect Blog, isn't it serene?! Hopefully I'll get a chance to paint this weekend.

The Art of Being Busy

Lately I've come to realize that I'm a lot busier then I ever let on to be. Most of you obviously know that I'm a wife and mommy, but what many of you may not know is that I also work full time and go to school. I love blogging, I adore party planning (in moderation) and as a new homeowner I'm discovering that I also have a passion for home improvement. Most of the time I'm able to handle doing all of these things at one time, but there are days and sometimes even weeks where I just want to focus on one thing at a time (I'm feeling this way now). Recently there have been some big changes in our life; hubby got a new job, JD is going to school full time and both hubby and I are attending school, which means our little family is busier than ever. Now that the sun is still out by the time I get home from work and the fact that hubby's new job means he'll be home early and have weekends off, I feel like the last thing I want to do is sit in front of the computer (I do that 8 hours a day, 5 days a week) at home. I still have tons of stuff I want to blog about and I plan on keeping up with every ones blog posts, but I don't plan on blogging every day. I just want to enjoy my little family, our adventures to come and turning our house into a home!

Knott's Berry Farm 2012

For JD's 3rd birthday last week we took him to Knott's Berry Farm for the very first time! We all had a blast and since it was the middle of the week the park wasn't crowded at all. JD was able to ride on his favorite rides more than once and he even got three picture opportunities with Snoopy!

JD is 3!

Three years ago today God blessed us with this amazing little boy! In the last year he has grown so much and developed such a personality (he reminds me so much of myself that sometimes it's scary). JD finds ways to make us laugh even when he's driving us crazy. He always knows just what to say and do to make you smile even on the worse days. I love him more than words can say and want to wish him a "Very Happy 3rd Birthday!"

Our Bedroom: Craigslist Finds

One of the rooms in our home that needs some TLC is our bedroom. We literally haven’t done a thing to it since we moved in. When we're home we spend most of our time in the living room or backyard, but I would love to have a place of my own to relax. Hubby has his office, with all his gadgets, cable TV and even a couch. JD has his very own bedroom with more toys, puzzles and books than we can count. I on the other hand have no where to hide relax. So this weekend I finally began putting together all the pieces to create my very own get-away (while keeping hubby in mind of course). All of our bedroom furniture, except for a lovely wing back chair I found at Habitat for Humanity a couple years ago is from IKEA (HEMNES Collection). Although I really considered getting a new bedroom set, I wanted to challenge myself to work with what we have. I began my search for a few items to add to our bedroom last week and I wanted to share my awesome finds!
This 6 drawer IKEA HEMNES dresser retails for $279. This just so happens to be the finish of all of our bedroom furniture and is actually discontinued in this finish, so when I found a listing for it on Craigslist I jumped at the opportunity to buy it. We paid $125 for it and it's in great condition. I plan on using it as a TV/media stand and the two small drawers are perfect for jewelry, watches and other knick knacks.
Other then hoping that I didn’t add a bunch of girly frill to the room, hubby only had one request...he wanted a ceiling fan. When we bought the house our bedroom actually had a ceiling fan, but it was the ugliest most dangerous looking ceiling fan I'd ever seen, so we removed it. Ceiling fans can be pretty expensive, so once again I began my search on Craigslist. I came across so many fans, some actually reminded me of the one we had thrown out and others were really nice, but ridiculously over-priced. On Monday I finally came across a listing for a brand new ceiling fan I had admired at Home Depot. I talked the seller into selling it to us for $65, half off the retail price!
