Inspiration Board: Bathroom

2011 is only a day away and my list of things to do in the new year is so long that I actually have a folder instead of a list! Half of my things-to-do folder thankfully includes the help of my hubby (he has his own folder too), who has taken on being a new homeowner with complete gusto; he's fixing, landscaping and building things on a daily basis, but one of the projects I have taken on all by myself is the bathroom. Our one and only bathroom is “nice”, well if you think bamboo blinds as wall paper is nice (we don't) and our vanity is so big that you can actually brush your teeth over the sink while standing in the shower (there is only a ½ inch space between the tub and vanity). I've started putting together all my ideas for our bathroom and here is my very first attempt at an Inspiration Board!

Storage Totes!

Throughout the years the hubby and I (and now JD too) have collected so much stuff; when we moved into the house we managed to not only fill the garage but also the extra bedroom/office with to say the least, stuff!  This weeks mission is to organize the extra bedroom/office and The Home Depot has made it easier, less expensive and a little more stylish. Now thru January 20th 2011, The Home Depot is having their Winter Storage Event and these 20 gallon totes are on sale for only $4.88, they come in some really nice neutral colors too! I bought a bunch of them last night, but I think I may just stop by HD and pick up a few more.

So many toys, so little time...

JD received so many awesome gifts this Christmas; I really thought he would have maybe one or two favorites but it seems that he loves them all and hasn't stopped playing with them since, he was even excited about pajamas!

Our Christmas 2010

I hope everyone had a Very Merry Christmas! We spent our Christmas with our family and friends at our new home and had a really wonderful time. JD has been a bit congested but he managed to be his usually crazy self and had a blast opening and playing will all his gifts. This year's Christmas menu was a mix of all our favorite foods including, arroz con pollo, tamales, stuffing, pork roast and for the very first time a fried turkey, courtesy of my in-laws (I don't think we will be eating turkey any other way)! I will admit the last few months have been a little overwhelming but God has blessed our family so much and everything has fallen into place perfectly. Our family is definitely looking forward to the new year and we have tons of new adventures planned. May God bless you and your family this holiday season!

JD's 18 (19) Month Check-Up

Today was JD's 18 month check-up (a whole month late) and ironically he actually got sick on the way to his appointment. JD is a strong little guy and has only been really sick twice, so it's hard for me to even imagine him being sick! I'm at work today so it was hubby's turn to take him to the doctor and keep me posted. After the appointment hubby and JD stopped by my office for a visit and JD made sure to tell me he got a "boo-boo" on his leg (shot); oh and that he wanted me to take him outside to see the "agua", I guess he isn't feeling too bad after all, thank God.

18 (19) Month Check-Up

Height: 34 1/4 inches (90%)
Weight: 25lbs 4oz (50%)
Head Circumference: 49.8 (90%)

JD received a few shots and we were informed that there's a stomach bug going around, so we shouldn't worry too much about him feeling yucky and we should just keep him hydrated. We've also been worried that JD is too skinny, but the doctor assured us his weight was just fine and that a skinny 2 year old usually means less of a chance of being an obese adult. The doctor also mentioned that JD was unusually social for his age and extremely cooperative, go figure!

Habitat For Humanity ReStore: Pottery Barn Medicine Cabinet

For years I have driven by our local Habitat For Humanity building and had no clue it was a ReStore (picture a Goodwill that sells building and home improvement materials) and open to the public! So about a month ago the hubby and I finally stopped in to browse and we were pleasantly surprised, they have some really cool stuff; lighting fixtures, furniture, doors, sinks, toilets, appliances and so much more. While browsing I came across a medicine cabinet, but not just any medicine cabinet, it was the exact one I had been admiring online at Pottery Barn since the day we began escrow on the house. The medicine cabinet had a few scratches and was a bit dusty, but since I planned on refinishing it anyways I wasn't leaving without it, especially after seeing the Pottery Barn price tag on the back of it!
Pottery Barn Hotel Wall-Mounted Medicine Cabinet
Retail price: $249-$299
we paid: $25.00
What I hope it will look like when I'm done refinishing it!

About Habitat For Humanity ReStore:

Habitat’s ReStore resale outlets sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public. While every ReStore outlet is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances.

ReStore resale outlets accept donated goods which are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The proceeds help local Habitat affiliates fund the construction of Habitat homes within their communities.

Promoting reuse and recycling. ReStore resale outlets provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.

Robots & Space Art: John W. Golden

JD's robot room was put on hold for a couple of months (while house-hunting), but now that we are all moved in and his bedroom is a clean slate, I've started looking into Robot Art. This weekend while browsing on Esty.com, I came across this amazing artist, John W. Golden and I've become totally infatuated with his Robots and Space themed art. Now comes the hard part, picking which prints to buy! Here are a few of my favorite prints, but please visit John's Etsy Shop to see more.

Jonathan Louis Alfred Sectional

It's week three of being homeowners and we are still trying to figure out our style (this may take a while, maybe years). We want our home to be inviting, stylish and above all comfortable. When we bought the house we knew that some of our furniture and art would never make into our new homes décor, but our sofa and love seat have probably been the biggest décor issue we have come across. If you've ever had the pleasure of sitting on our sofas, you know how absolutely comfortable they are, on the other hand they are bulky and do not fit well in our new living room; so it was time to start looking for a new sofa, a sectional to be exact! After visiting a few local furniture stores we found exactly what we were looking for in this Jonathan Louis, Alfred Sectional, which is not only super affordable but completely customizable too!

TPPM: Gourmet Popcorn Buffet

For JD's Robots and Rockets birthday party I thought it would be a yummy idea to have a Gourmet Popcorn Buffet instead of the typical candy buffet, especially since he had a sweet shoppe for his 1st birthday party! Ironically, I found this amazing example of a popcorn buffet and it just happened to be a robot party too! I love everything about this party and have drawn tons of inspiration from it. I've collected a bunch of robot toys and wind-ups in the last few months for JD's Robot Room (a lot of the same ones you see in the picture below) and I plan on incorporating them into his party decor. Isn't this table so robotically cool!

Making room for Maytag...

When we were in escrow the hubby and I agreed that our first major purchase for our new home would be a washer and dryer, after 2 years of lugging clothes to the laundromat and another 2 years of using the community laundry at our apartment building, we refused to live without our own set. Well, what we didn't know is that our parents were secretly conspiring to buy us a washer and dryer and last week they announced the surprise and asked us to pick a set; all I have to say is the hubby and I are pretty darn lucky, we both have very generous parents who are very thoughtful and caring and we can't thank them enough for everything they do for us and for buying us our very own washer and dryer. So last Saturday we spent the whole day organizing our garage and making room for our new Maytag washer and dryer and Sunday they arrived!

All of the stuff on the left, besides JD's car and our laundry will be sold at our 1st Annual Yard Sale in January!
